just graduated university and want to live in america?

i just finished university in may and i would really like to live in america. what is the best way to go about this? i want to be a writer but that is besides the point, what i really want to do is move to america get a crappy day job and just live and enjoy a country that means so much to me.

i was thinking perhaps San Fransisco, i visited there last year after doing a 2 month roadtrip with a friend. i only have about $4000 (est.) in savings and was wondering what would be the best way to plan towards my future.

my friend had the idea of just going over there with a bag of belongings, spending a month in a hostel, finding a job and eventually a place but i know thats not really pracitcal (or legal)

any ideas? im in the UK

thanks for your help

You need the TRUTH, so you can consider your options. Since you are from the U.K. , the ONLY 2 ways you may live, work, immigrate to the U.S. is to have an immediate family member to sponsor you or a much needed job skill and an employer to sponsor you. See 1st site below. the MOST difficult thing to do on the face of the earth is to immigrate to the U.S…. and UK citizens are at the top of the list of people currently ineligible. See 2nd site. San Francisco is terribly expensive, you are NOT going to be able to find decent jobs as illegals, it would be a disaster, you would be deported and banned. Don’t mess up your life like that. Now…if you want to attend graduate school…you need more savings, but then could apply for a student visa…the most likely way to spend time in America. Also, the entire E.U. is open to you. You may certainly travel to and visit the U.S., but you really cannot work in the U.S. same type of restrictions are in place in the U.K. Tons of young people in the U.K. write in here every day with the same desire… and tons of young Americans idealize the UK and want to live there, esp. in London! However, you need to know the facts and look at other options. You have education, enthusiasm, initiative, and a spirit of adventure. You just need to use those in other ways.
