Does Babe Ruth own the real home run record at 765?

According to Wikipedia, Babe Ruth hit 765 home runs under the current ruling. Under the current foul ball rules Babe Ruth hit 765 researched home runs. The 50 were recorded as foul under previous foul ball rules. The number could be greater than 50. It could be 78 because it has been said that there were extra home runs on top of the 50 that have not been verified. The extras have not been verified like the 50. If the ball went past the poll and went foul after passing the poll and the fence, the ball was declared foul. Another rule was changed on wikipedia to give Ruth 715 home runs because of the new walk off scoring rule. They said that the MLB only gave him one walk off. I would have thought that he had more than one in his baseball career.
How can they change one ground rule and not another? Did they go back and change every hit record for every player after adding in Ruth?

No. The rules may have changed, but the rules he played with are the rules that have to be used to calculate his total. Otherwise, you would have to change the record books every time a rule changed, and you would also have to change the record books for every other change in the league (shorter ball parks, etc)
