London Jobs Has It
Is it hard for a Black American to get a service type job in London?
I ask because I have been in London for 2 weeks. I have been searching for any type of job, waitressing, bartending, receptionist, and other low skill jobs. Although I have experience in all of these jobs, no one seems to want to hire me. Is there a problem with Black Americans working in london, or is it just me? I really am a great worker, but no one will give me a chance! It makes me so frustrated, and sometimes, I just want to give up and go home. Should I just give up?
Do you have a working visa? If not, this could be the root of the problem. It’s easier and cheaper for people to hire someone who is local, with no paperwork to process than to sponsor someone for a visa. If your visa is in place, then I suspect it really is just bad luck. There is massive demand for these types of job, unless they’re really really sucky, so competition can be surprisingly fierce. Have you tried Gumtree? There are all sorts of positions advertised on this:

I have friends from abroad who have had similar problems finding work, but in the grand scale of things, 2 weeks isn’t that long. You’ll find something, just give it a bit of time. Best of luck!
