The current weak job growth and important opportunities

By Teresa Maria Estrada

A survey quarterly by Manpower Inc. shows that U.S. employment expectations has fallen to its lowest level since 2003. Countries with strong ties to the U.S. economy are also seeing an effect on their domestic labor market. The employment outlook in the UK is at its lowest level since 1994, all in an environment of increasing oil prices and inflation.

One of the most affected group in this work environment, as seen in many recessions, are graduates new university. The Department of Labor reported that in the second quarter of this year, unemployment among 20 – to 24 years of age, the typical post age group graduate, was 9.8 percent. This is 1.7 percent more than in the second quarter of 2001, which was around the same time as the recession in the U.S. past. Meanwhile, the U.S. Department of Labor reported in July that global unemployment reached 5.7 percent.

Most affected by this labor market are those looking for work in the financial services sector due to the crisis of subprime mortgages. As most people would say, these recent graduates are all victims of bad timing.

Still, there is a small segment of recent graduates has been particularly affected by the recent recession. Those who also graduated during the previous recession.

Daniel Hsu graduated from the School of Business London with an MBA in Finance. Unfortunately for him, also graduated in 2002 from the Walter A. Haas School of Business with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration Business. "I never thought this could happen twice in a decade," said Hsu. "Before entering the two universities, I would like to see the report salary of the previous graduates and thinking, 'Wow, I can not believe I'm going to make as much money after graduation, but the end is almost impossible to get an interview. "

However, many recent graduates are taking the opportunity to continue to "dream" careers that are out of their way provided professional or traditional. Hsu has actually done twice. Six months after graduating with his degree in 2002 and after a small step as a janitor, Hsu became a resident DJ at 1015 Folsom Nightclub in San Francisco, CA. "I have loved music all my life. I got my first guitar when I was in the sixth degree and started DJing in 1998 but never thought I would never do it for life ".

After two years of DJ and production studio musical, Hsu decided to return to their knowledge of business and began a career as an independent financial adviser. "I really had a great time with my musical career but I needed something more stable and a slower pace, "said Hsu. Two years later, Hsu decided to return to the business school at the London Business School, but had no idea that lightning would strike twice.

"After living in [San Francisco] Bay Area, you can view jump houses for sale and you knew something bad was going to happen, "said Hsu. Something bad happened in June 2007, two hedge funds at Bear Stearns collapsed, that was just the beginning of the current economic crisis.

With a degree specializing in Finance, the Hsu's career were few. "In compared to MBA students, most companies will not hire an MBA in Finance student for consultation or marketing, " Hsu said. Again, Hsu take things into their own hands and do something I always dreamed about.

Hsu and a classmate, who preferred to remain anonymous for future employment prospects, formed "TIL Darling – The Online Clothing Boutique '( href = "http://www.theonlineclothingboutique.com" target = "_blank"> www.theonlineclothingboutique.com) as part of your student's project requires end. "Before coming to London, I really wanted to study fashion, but my parents thought it was not practical enough. Curiously, one of our classmates said that our project was probably the most practical of all others, "said Hsu's partner.

It is too early to know tildarling.com success, but after breaking even three months of operation and achieving top 20 rankings for many keywords, Hsu is optimistic: "Hey, we have an 'A' in our final project and that only cost us £ 6,000."

moves tildarling.com to the U.S., where he lives permanently Hsu and will test the success of it in a larger market, but it's just a case of many recent graduates who are creating a great opportunity in a struggling economy.
