How do I apply for Welfare services in Canada?

Hello,

I recently lost my job due to the economy being bad. I was laid off, but did not meet the requirements to qualify for unemployment insurance. Now, I’m in a really bad place. My rent is due in two weeks, and despite my efforts to find another job, I haven’t had a single callback. I’ve never thought I’d be the kind of person to have to apply for Welfare, but here I am.

My question is: How do I apply for Welfare Services in Canada? Is there a number I can call? Or a website I can go to for information? Thank you for your help.

Welfare in Canada is administered by the individual provinces. I don’t know which province you live in but it should be in the Blue pages in your phone book. Look under Social Services.
