Dependent college student, have high paying job in NYC and low paying job in CT, pay both state income taxes?

I am a full time college student in CT. my parents claim me as a dependent in Connecticut.

In 2010 I will make $3000 at my school job (in CT), and $8000 over the summer through an internship located in New York City.

I am currently listed as exempt on my job at school…

Am i going to have to pay federal income tax next year? what about NY or CT?

If you are going to be age 23 or younger as of 12/31/2010, and still in school, then you will be a dependent in 2010. Your taxable income will be about $5,000 and you may owe $500 in federal income tax.

So you are not exempt in 2010. You should claim zero on your W-4s for both jobs so that you will not have a balance due.

Based on your information:

CT: zero tax, no filing requirement.
NY: $200, file a nonresident return.
