Is it difficult for a college student to find a job in New York?
I am a college student 19 years of age, native New York but now living in the West Coast. However, I miss the city and was accepted at a school there, I wondered how difficult it is to get a work there? I had several jobs in retail and my highest "position" has been the one I currently hold, which is assistant manager at a store retail / accessories, along with the experience of volunteers. I am not looking for something specific, you know I can not be choosers. I'm going to New York in January, but I start looking now. I look at craigslist everyday just to get an idea about the number of positions open and there seems to be atleast 40 openings a day in each category, it seems as if it would be impossible to find a job once I got there. So from experience, someone who lives in the city … how crazy is it? Any suggestions are welcome, thank you very much!
My friend, the best to go to college is that there are always people willing to help. Many universities have a career center where you can view any part time work available near the school you are attending. You can work on campus or off campus. Good luck

Making the Most of College: Students Speak Their Minds $14.95 Filled with practical advice, illuminated with stories of real students’ self doubts, failures, discoveries, and hopes, “Making the Most of College” presents strategies for academic success. Why do some students in the United States make the most of college, while others struggle and look back on years of missed opportunities? What choices can students make, and what can teachers and university leaders do to improve more students’ experiences and help them make the most of their time and monetary investment? And how is greater diversity on campus cultural, racial, and religious affecting education? How can students and faculty benefit from differences and learn from the inevitable moments of misunderstanding and awkwardness? Two Harvard University Presidents invited Richard Light and his colleagues to explore these questions, resulting in ten years of interviews with 1,600 Harvard students. Making the Most of College offers concrete advice on choosing classes, talking productively with advisors, improving writing and study skills, maximizing the value of research assignments, and connecting learning inside the classroom with the rest of life. The stories that students shared with Light and his colleagues about their experiences of inspiration, frustration, and discovery fill the book with spirit. Some of the anecdotes are funny, some are moving, and some are surprising. Many are wise especially about the ways of getting the best, in classroom and dormitory, from the new racial and ethnic diversity. Filled with practical advice, illuminated with stories of real students’ self doubts, failures, discoveries, and hopes, Making the Most of College presents strategies for academic success. |
