The aviation sector in India has seen stupendous growth in the recent past. With the liberalization of this sector, more and more companies have set foot in this industry and flying is no more a luxury mode of transport. With the increased number of planes and flying activity, the demand for pilots has also increased. It is a niche job and requires specialized training and practice. In civil aviation, the primary duty of the commercial pilot is to fly an aircraft with passengers or cargo. It is the responsibility of the pilot to operate the plane from safe take-off to safe landing. Thus, it is a job that entails huge responsibility of many lives and the plane. Pilots have to work at odd hours, on weekends, be away from home for many days and be on call always. Thus, the job of a pilot requires a lot of hard work, courage, stamina, and ability to adapt. Thus, one should not be blinded by the glamour and the money associated with the job. It is important to know the reality of the career before opting for this field. Also, a pilot is required to have sound technical and analytical ability combined with high mental alertness. He/she should have a calm temperament and should be able to control difficult situations that arise while flying. Especially, at times, when the aircraft hits rough weather or faces any technical issue, it is the alertness and presence of mind of the pilot that can keep the aircraft in safety. Thus, a pilot is expected to be both physically and mentally fit, active and alert.

But it is full of adventure and the before entering this field, one should get complete information about the lifestyle of pilots and then take a decision.

 

To become a pilot, one has to undergo proper training and obtain the requisite licence. Firstly, one has to obtain a student pilot license (SPL) for the training. This can be obtained after matriculation at a minimum age of 16 years. After this, a student has to obtain a private pilot license (PPL). During this period, one is given training to fly and is also required to pass theoretical tests that include the basic knowledge about the aircraft and flying. It is only after this that one can obtain a commercial pilot license (CPL). Thus, a candidate needs to clear these three basic courses in order to become a commercial pilot. The time taken to earn all these licenses is different for different individuals and it could take from one to three years to complete.

 

Today, in India, many existing airlines have expanded and new airlines have set foot. Thus, there is an ever-increasing demand for trained pilots. To tap into this demand, private flying schools have also expanded to produce more trained pilots. Other than pilots, there is demand for cabin crew also. Thus, pilot jobs and other aviation jobs have become the first option for many youngsters looking to have an exciting career.
