how do career fairs work
Career/Job Fair in Michigan, how effective is this in obtaining employment?

Hello,
I’m currently a student at a local university working on my B.A. My graduation date is December 2007, and I am majoring in Anthropology. I have just currently lost my job which was totally unprofessional, but still I do need income. My major is broad and I am interested in the social services perhaps non-profit and rehabilitation in particular but I am open. Is going to a job fair in particular the one in Oakland County, the diversity fair in Troy today even going to be worth the hour drive for me? I know the answer is up in the air but how much success have others had with their experience with job fairs? In Michigan? and with a degree in liberal arts, like anthropology?
Thanks!

Probably not worth the drive because there is so much competition for so few spots. But you might make some great contacts for the future and it will prepare you for other job fairs. Personally I never received any contacts from job fairs because usually the companies that attend those are looking for low paying, high turnover, always needed positions.
