Will I be able to find a $10+ hour job in New York City without a degree?

hello there, I recently visited New York City and loved it! I’m 17 and will be going off to university soon but before I do I would like to travel to New York and live there for a few years for a great experience! I have been looking apartments in the areas I am interested in such as the west and east village and I have found Rooms for around 700 – 750 per month share and I understand that getting a high paying job without a degree could be hard. Whoa there. First and for most before coming to New York, the first and most important thing you need is a backup plan. I’m just like you. I moved here last month and I was 17. I enrolled in college, but instead of searching for an apartment, I’m residing in the City College Towers Apartment dorms, and boy rent isn’t cheap. I pay $1090 for a private room and bath. But what’s good about it is that my financial aid and direct loans is paying for it, and I just pay the remaining balance. You’ll need to find a job immediately. I found a job in less than a week here that’s related to my major and I’m working at Barneys New York as a sales associate making $11hr. It’s enough money to pay the rent but as for food and other things, you might want to file for food stamp and temporary assistance. I did because by joining these programs, it’s helping me save money for an apartment, and keeping extra money in my pocket. Kid many people will try to tell you that New york is this and that….etc,(most, but not all is true) but it’s worth it. If I can move out here at 17 and make it, you probably can too. Just be very careful, and make the right choices, but the main thing is when you’re enrolling in school ask about special programs that help students. Good Luck!!!
