Job Description:
Computer software engineers develop, design, and test computer software and computer systems. Computer software engineers are trained in designing and developing various types of computer software programs, consisting of computer games, computers operating system and network setups.

Systems software engineers evaluate user needs and software requirements and then create, test, and construct computer software to meet those needs. They may also have to modify existing programs to correct errors, fix pc software, maintain and improve computer performance. Computer software engineers can be involved in setting up networks that link computers to intranets. Software engineers must be knowledgeable on the operation of complex computer systems to provide customers with technical support. Also, systems software engineers are responsible for securing security protection over the systems they are designing. They often work as part of a team coordinating software systems, designing new hardware, and software.

Education/Training:
Computer software engineers are required to have at least a bachelor’s degree or higher in computer engineering or computer science and an overall knowledge of, and know-how with, a variety of computer systems and technologies. Applicants pursuing software engineering jobs improve their employment opportunities by participating in internships or co-ops. These skills provide applicants with all-around knowledge and experience, making them more appealing to employers. Most software engineers work a typical 40 hour week, occasionally working evenings and weekends to meet deadlines or fix unexpected technical issues.
