My girlfriend of 2 years is engaged to another man?

I am 24 and my girlfriend and I met again when both were preparing for our ACCA (Associate Chartered Certified Accounts), which is now done, got into teaching, as I got a decent job of entry into a company telecommunications with good career prospects, for the time pressured my parents who wanted to marry her and finally agreed to always improve my situation financial, I have a permanent status in the company and re-assured my girlfriend that we will finish together and so far I have been working around the same aim, recently I my parents remember it but has not yet agree that was set correctly, so I asked my gf for a few months, last, week they just told me that their parents are involved in some of his distant relative who is 7 years old and works in Canada somewhere, I asked him to take a stand for me, as I have done everything completely just for her to which she said she couldnt discuss with them, I am totally lost now!

You should be a different cultural background, because at 24 you are considered an adult and make their own decisions. She has waited and waited, while he did what your parents told you to do. His family probably got sick of waiting too ….. so arranged to marry her to somebody else. I have no experience in cultural issues and really do not understand how Women and men can be as compliant to the wishes of parents. I respect the differences …. I just do not understand. I guess the only thing both can do is break with tradition ….. break the control parents have over two and follow your heart. This depends entirely on whether the love you have for each other is strong enough to break with tradition. Good luck.
