career 10+2

On Friday I saw the animated film Julie & Julia, who shares some surprising ideas about the career of one mapping.

Below are some lessons away from the film.

1. Careers do not have to come from "traditional" places. One of the protagonists of the film, Julia Child, was about 30 years later when he enrolled in culinary school. Why is drawn to the kitchen? He loved to eat. The New York Times, described his first Food in France as "an opening of the soul and spirit for me."

Take away: when considering a career change, be attentive to all that you like, in all areas of your life. His best race can get from the least expected place.

2. Do what you love, in all respects. In the film, which is based on a true story, Julie Powell gave up his dream of becoming a novelist and settled into a job that made her unhappy. Looking to add more structure to his life, as bet to cook every recipe in the cookbook by Julia Child. Why? Because he loved to cook. Combined with her love of writing and created a blog a huge success. Today, Amy Adams and Meryl Streep star in the film adaptation of Julie's book.

Take away: Do what you love. Take this to the next level to find the intersection of multiple things you like. Julie Powell was able to achieve a breakthrough in his career because the merging of his love of writing and cooking in his blog.

I'll put the second lesson in action on Friday to speak at the national convention of the Asian American Journalists Association's. Not only I like public speaking, but I also like helping people proactively map of their careers. A win-win!
