Does a paralegal degree have to be backed by the American Bar Assoc. to get a job?

The school I am attending has the correct curriculam for it to be approved buy the ABA, but they said it costs to much money to do it. Am I wasting my time, it will be for a associate degree not a certificate?

In some states, such as California….the answer is yes. There are states in the US that require the Paralegal to have certification or a degree from an ABA approved program. But the vast majority do not.

If you do well in the program, and the school itself is accredited appropriately, you should be ok. There will be further training you can pursue, such as NALA or your state association certification. You may also want to have a good background in the area you want to work in. For example, real estate….finance…..etc.
