Suggestions and/or guidelines for allowing your children to stay at home after graduating and for how long?

I would like to hear other opinions about allowing your children to stay at home after graduating; i.e., should deadlines be set for finding a job and/or going to school. Also, should your rules of the home still apply where they are concerned and if they go against your wishes, should they be asked to leave? How much time do you give your child and/or children to set some kind of goals and follow them through. I want to be fair, but not so that they take advantage of the situation and become lax in pursuing a job or career. I want them to learn to become self-sufficient. Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much!

I plan on going by the “18-90″ plan…. After you turn 18, you have 90 days to either 1.) Be employed full time 2.) Be enrolled in college full time or 3) Be gone (join the military, join a cult, move in with friends… whatever)
I think 3 months is reasonable. My son jut turned 16, and he is well-briefed on the plan so it doesn’t come as a surprise to him.
If for some reason he decides to stay past the 90-days, he will start to contribute financially, contributing his fair share to mortgage, groceries, bills, etc.
Additionally, as long as my children live in my house, they have to follow the rules – however, as they get older, the rules get more relaxed. If he choses to go to college, he can live in the house under relaxed rules until 90 days after he graduates.
